Ich glaube nicht das der Messenger eingestellt wird, allerdings ist die Meldung dazu so formuliert, das man es denken könnte.
Mit der Info "Microsoft stoppt MSN-Client für den Mac" ist nicht der Messenger gemeint, sondern der MSN Browser für die MSN Pay Angebote.
Es wird noch diesen Sommer die 5.0 für Mac geben !

Help Files for the new version of Microsoft Messenger 5.0 for Mac show that the application is around 98% complete with development pushed back slightly, the application should be on track for introduction over the next couple of weeks however there is no definite date as to when to expect to see the new version of Microsoft Messenger for Mac.

Display Pictures, just like MSN Messenger 6 & 7 for Windows.
Conversations show your buddy's display picture in the conversation
Display Pictures can be seen in the dock to the right of a conversation window.
You will be able to recieve custom emoticons but not create, store or send your own.
Indirect file transfers will be available, this should solve file transfer issues.
Companies can use Messenger 5 for Mac to connect to their LCS.
You can chat with a maximum of 15 persons in the same conversation

Neue Version des MSN Messenger in Entwicklung
Microsofts Mac-BU stellt die Unterstützung des Mac-Clients für den Online-Dienst MSN ein. Wirkungsvoll wird die Maßnahme am 31. Mai dieses Jahres, teilt Microsoft in einer Mail seinen Kunden mit.

Wer danach auf MSN-Dienste zurückgreifen will, muss den Browser seiner Wahl für eine MyMSN-Portalseite konfigurieren. E-Mail-Adresse, Adressbuch und Mailvolumen für MSN bleiben jedoch bestehen. Microsoft wolle weiterhin der Mac-Plattform treu bleiben, in Kürze soll eine neue Version des MSN-Messengers für den Mac herauskommen.
