Apple is currently investigating an issue where when attempting to publish to .Mac from iWeb, the following error is reported:
Publish Error - An error occurred while publishing file "filename".
As we continue to investigate this issue, there are several steps you can take that may help you resolve this issue:
1. Republish all pages to .Mac. To Publish all to .Mac:
- Open iWeb
- Press and hold the Option key on your keyboard
- In iWeb, select File > Publish All to .Mac
2. Try publishing to a different .Mac account. To create a trial .Mac account:
- Go to <http://www.apple.com/dotmac>
- Click on Free Trial
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete setting up a trial .Mac account.
After setting up a trial .Mac account, enter that account information into the .Mac System Preferences (Apple > System Preferences, click .Mac). Try to publish your page again.
If you are unable to publish to a trial account as well, proceed to step 4. If you are able to publish to a trial account, skip to step 5.
3. Create a new Mac OS X user and try publishing to the trial .Mac account. Please completely review the following AppleCare support articles for more information about the use and configuration of multiple user accounts in Mac OS X:

Once you have created a new user, log out of your current user and then log in to your new test user account. Enter your trial .Mac account information in the .Mac System Preferences of the new user, open iWeb, create a site, and try to publish to .Mac.
If you are unable to publish to the trial .Mac account from a second Mac OS X user, you may be experiencing a network or computer related issue. A good way to troubleshooting your network is to simplify your connection. For example, if you connect through multiple networking devices such as hubs and routers, simply connect directly to your modem and see if the issue occurs. If it does not, troubleshoot your local area network (LAN) devices.
Please verify your network connectivity and settings. If you are having trouble with your connections to the Internet, please contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for assistance. For more information about troubleshooting network connectivity, please see the following article:
Mac OS: Troubleshooting "A connection failure has occurred", "The specified server could not be found" or Similar Messages:
<http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n106798>
Another good way to verify whether the issue you have reported is being caused by your local network is to attempt to sync with .Mac Sync while connected to another network, such as one at a Apple Retail Store.
4. If you are able to publish to the trial .Mac account, but not your regular .Mac account, you may need to clear the iWeb folder of the affected account:
- Verify that the account you are unable to publish to is currently entered into the .Mac System Preferences.
- Open your iDisk (Go > iDisk > My iDisk)
- Open the Web folder
- Open the Sites folder
- Open the iWeb folder
- Delete the contents of this folder
- Try publishing from iWeb again.
5. If publishing to the trial .Mac account works from the test Mac OS X user but not your normal user, log back in to your normal Mac OS X user, open iWeb, and try publishing your website to a folder (File > Publish to Folder).
After publishing the site to a folder, try copying the folder to the Documents folder of your iDisk.
If the suggestions above do not resolve the issue you are experiencing, please let us know. Please respond to this message with a detailed description of the troubleshooting steps you have taken: tell us, step-by-step, what you were trying to accomplish and provide the exact text of any error messages you have received.
Sincerely,
