Yate won't read the XML file but it can import the existing metadata from iTunes. There's a function and action statement named Import Fields from Apple App.
This function is intended for those times when your files and an Apple application are out of sync and your prefer the values in the Apple application. The function will import all values overwriting the values in the files. Note that the list of imported values does not include artwork or library only values not written to files. To import those values use Get Artwork from Apple App and Import from Apple App.
This function is particularly useful when you have WAV files where the tag information has been set in iTunes or Music and you want to initialize the tag settings in the file.
The following fields will be set: Artist, Album Artist, Album, BPM, Comments, Composer, Description, Disc, Disc Count, Genre, Grouping, Lyrics, Part of a Compilation, Sort Album, Sort Album Artist, Sort Artist, Sort Composer, Sort Title, Title, Track, Track Count, Year. Note that Lyrics are not imported from WAV files. For some reason Apple doesn't like artwork or lyrics in WAV files.
If importing from a video source the following fields will also be set: Episode, Episode ID, Season, Show Name, Sort Show Name, Video Description.
Using the three functions Import Fields from Apple App, Get Artwork from Apple App and Import from Apple App you can get everything back. The UI based Import from Apple App only imported what you've configured as desirable in the preferences. On the action statement you can ask for everything.
I'm assuming that your files can be linked. I've attached a small sample action which attempts to import everything. I do not know what your linkage mechanism is. Metadata or retained PIDs. I always recommend retained PIDs. There's an article called
Working with Apple Apps - The Basics in the Documentation section of the resources web page.
Have a look at the action.
