Mac OS X's clock in the menu bar always seemed incomplete to me. Great, it shows the day of the week- like I don't know it's sunday for christ's sake. But of course it doesn't show the date, unless you click on it.
thus I've used menucalendarclock for the past year- actually only to have the date in the menu bar. yesterday I came across this article (nateklaiber.com/?p=35) that explains how to customize the clock in the menu bar. here's mine:

I got rid of menucalendarclock which saves a bit of RAM and some nano seconds at start-up.
