Dear Apple-Team,
just in case you dont know:
There is a problem (known for almost 3 weeks by users now) with the Mini and the DVI output. When viewing DVDs with a NEC1880SX-BK under 1280*1024 @ 60Hz, there is static and artefacts all over the place. Using a tool like SwitchResX almost solves the problem (going down to 1280*1024 @ 57Hz), but since I bought a brand new computer, I expect it to work flawlessly.
This is not only an individual problem, but of rather a large group. Please go and check your support forums at
http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?14@335.pNX4aAOTREa.28@.68a43e3b - you´ll find lots of threads concerning this topic.
Further, from what I know, the issue is not a defect graphics chip. Friends of mine sent their Minis in and got their graphics chips replaced by new ones, with the result that nothing had changed. The static and artefacts persisted.
The issue currently causes lots of frutration, because the people dont feel taken care of in an appropriate way. The German Apple support told one of my friends, that if the Mini should work on another pannel, it is his problem. In the MacMini Display Forum, a ton of threads on the same topic show up(which indicates, that it is NOT an individual problem of one or two users with the same display), but so far not a single Apple representative has said anything about it. This is not what I understand under 'Customer Care'.
In my opinion, sitting out this problem will definately harm Apple and Apples reputation.
All I want or expect is, that Apple admits that there is a problem and that they are in the process of fixing it. Then everybody knows, that something is going to happen. But with no offical answer or statement from Apple, everybody is getting more and more frustrated, which is very sad, because apart from that the product, is wonderful.
Best regards,
Dominik Clauss
