Q:
I'm trying to smb connect from my laptop with panther to a Windows 2003 Server running Active Directory but nothing works. Any ideas?
A:
First, change the following registry key in regedit:
HKey_Local_Machine / System / CurrentControlSet / Services / LanManServer / Parameter / RequireSecuritySignature
change it to 0.
Now you have to change it in the control panel, or it will reset at midnight and also every time the server reboots.

One note: If this is a domain controller, you will need to set it with the 'Domain Controller Security Policy' editor under the 'Administrative Tools' Menu. Otherwise it'll be reset nightly.
You need to go to 'Security Settings', 'Local Policies', 'Security Options'. You then need to set the 'Microsoft network server: Digitally sign communications' to disabled. It is enabled by defualt.

Tipp: Acitive Directory Replizierung abwarten...
