fcpX wieder arbeitsfähig machen - bleibt immer hängen - was tun ?

Leider bleibt mein fcpX Version 10.6.5 Build-Version 405627 ständig hängen (mnur noch beachballing).
Auch die einfachsten Dinge (Import von Standbildern, suche nach Clips) scheint das Programm ständig zu überfordern.
Sind ihm vielleicht 12.000 Mediendateien vielleicht zu viel? Oder sucht er die fehlenden Links die ganze Zeit, auch wenn man si enicht braucht ?
