ATI X1900 auf G5

Ich stehe kurz davor mir einen gebrauchten G5 Model M9590LL/A (Late 2005) zu kaufen,der ja PCI-Express slots hat.Mein frage ,würde die ATI X1900 in den G5 passen ? ich frage deshalb weil im Apple store die karte ausdrücklich für den Mac Pro angeboten wird mit doppelter breite des PCI-E slot

Im G5 sind PCI-X Steckplätze verbaut (jedenfalls in meinem, G5 2,5 Ghz Dual). Die neuen GraKas sind alle für PCI Express designt. Mir ist momentan keine ATI X1900 für PCI-X bekannt - die würde ich auch gerne einbauen.

Willkommen bei MacUser!

Leider kann ich die Frage nicht beantworten. Ging bisher davon aus, dass alle G5 PowerMacs nur AGP Grafikkarten verwenden (bzw. eine kleine PCI als Zweitkarte). Brauchbare Infos hab ich auf die Schnelle auch nicht finden können.

Ich verschieb dich mal ins PowerMac Forum, da weiß das sicher jemand... ;)

nein, die karte von apple hat eine bios/efi firmware drauf, du bräuchtest eine openfirmware firmware in der karte damit die im einen PCIe G5 geht...

Im Late 2005 G5 sind PCIe Steckplätze. Von daher würde die ATI X1900 des Mac Pros THEORETISCH passen, praktisch ist die Firmware nicht kompatibel. ATI bringt angeblich aber auch eine G5 Variante für den PCIe Steckplatz raus, wann weiss niemand. Noch nicht mal ATI selbst. Im Moment stehen die Käufer des Late 2005 PowerMacs ziemlich im Regen was Grafikkarten angeht. Selbst Apple bietet nichts an. :-(
 
Habe dazu diese Info gefunden, aber ob die X1900 wirklich als PCIe G5 Edition in den Handel kommt ist fraglich.

ATI to release (retail) PCI-Express Radeon X1900 G5 Edition
I called an ATI contact at WWDC to ask if the new ATI Radeon X1900 XT graphics card kit (MA631Z/A) at the Apple store (kit priced at $499, est. 3-5 weeks to ship) would work in a PCI-Express based G5 Tower. (The Apple store kit page says it requires a Mac Pro.) I was told the X1900 XT kit card would -not- work in a PCI-e G5.
However he said that they would soon release a "X1900 G5 Edition" for PCI Express G5 towers. (equiv. to the PC X1900 GT card, less pipes than the X1900 XT for the Mac Pro tower).
The X1900 G5 edition was demoed at Siggraph in a PCI-e G5 he said and hopefully will be available at retail in a few weeks. He said the card is compatible with OS X 10.4.7 using the drivers included with card. (No official price yet, but I think it will be significantly less than the X1900 XT's Kit price.)
BTW - a Quad G5 owner with OEM Nvidia 7800GT card asked if it would work in a new Mac Pro tower. Nobody I know has a Mac Pro yet, but if anyone gets one and/or can comment on this let me know. (Update - one reader said it would not work, as Mac Pro graphics cards must be EFI compliant.)

ich würde aber behaupten mit der x800 XT solltest Du auch schon gute Erfolge erzielen :), die gibts für den G5 mit AGP
