alternatives Mail-Tool für Outlook Express unter 9.22

Hallo Leute,

seit unser Provider die Mailkonten auf SMTP-Authentification umgestellt hat, klappt der Mailversand mit Outlook express unter OS 9.22 nicht mehr.

Nach langem suchen habe ich auf den Clients nun Netscape 7 installiert. Dort klappt es mit der SMTP-Auth. Jedoch ist das Mail-Programm total lahm und manchmal kommt es vor, das jede 2. Mail nicht geschickt wird, ohne irgendeine Fehlermeldung.

Nun suche ich also nach einem adequaten Ersatz für das gute alte Outlook Express.

Am liebsten natürlich Freeware.

Was haltet ihr von Eudora?
Soll ich es mal mit Netscape 4.8 probieren? (habe ich leider nur in englisch gefunden)

Was haltet ihr von Eudora?

Einige ältere Mail-Programme unter OS 8 und OS 9 können mit Baton Mail nachgerüstet werden, damit sie mit SMTP Auth (in drei verschiedenen Varianten) umgehen können:

With SPAM on the rise, most ISPs have added the need to authenticate before being able to send email thru their servers. With older email clients (like Claris Emailer, Eudora Lite, or just about any mail client older than the last year or two), this authentication ability is missing. Baton Mail adds this ability by acting as a private mail relay station

Baton Mail is a small application that you run in the background on your computer. You configure your email client to send outbound email to Baton Mail, which in turn performs any necessary authentication with your ISPs mail server, and then relays the outbound mail.

In addition, some ISPs have have begun blocking all SMTP traffic that is not going to their mail server. As a result, some companies have started allowing SMTP traffic on ports other than the standard SMTP port. Again, many older mail clients don't allow you to change which port mail is sent out on, preventing you from using a company mail server instead of your ISP's. Baton Mail can come to the rescue here as well, by allowing you to assign what port you want to connect over.

Was ich von Eudora halte?

Ein großartiges Programm. Ich verwende seit vielen Jahren Eudora Light 3.1.3, meine Freundin benutzt es zusammen mit Baton Mail (siehe oben). Alles völlig problemlos und zuverlässig.

Einige meiner Bekannten hatten zeitweise über 5000 Mails in der Inbox - man sollte es nicht so weit kommen lassen, aber technisch für Eudora Light 3.1.3 auf einem alten Mac unter OS 8 oder 9 kein Problem.

Es gibt ein Plug-In zum Eindeutschen von 3.1.3:

Mit einem kleinen Trick können mit Eudora Light auch mehrere Mail-Accounts verwaltet werden.
