Hi,
I have found eversmart pro for little price.
When i start it everithing is ok (front green light).
But i can't comunicate with it.
I work with G4, adaptec 2906 and Macos 9.2.2 with eversmart scan 1.1 and 3.1
I try 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 version of adaptec driver (in extension).
I try some thing with scsi terminator and scsi number. Some times scanner is see by scitex scsi software but not communicate (freeze program or error message
check scsi...).
I think scsi number of 5 and terminator on are good.
Scsi cable and card are good (working with supreme).
So i think it is problem from electronic card of scanner.
I post two picture of these card for supreme and pro.
For the pro when scanner is working i have one green light on one card and one
red blinking lith on other.
I suspect red blinking light...
Someone can help
Thanks
Philippe
Hi, Philippe!
I also had problem with Scitex EverSmart Pro, Adaptec 2906 and G4 1,25 MDD.
I installed Mac OS 9.2.2, placed Adaptec driver 1.3 in Extension folder and
installed EverSmart Scan 1.0.1. Scitex SCSI Information saw EverSmart on the
ID6, but EverSmart (Pro) Install&Utils freezing with tab "Resetting Controller".
The problem was solved by installing Mac OS Z9.2.2 (from the one of iMac G5
system discs with Mac OS 10.3.5), placing Adaptec driver 1.3 in Extension
folder, installing EverSmart Scan 1.0.1 and copy Eversmart Scan 2.5.1 folder
from old Power PC 9600 (which worked with my scanner without problem).
I also copy EverSmart Preferences from 9600 to G4.
After that I launched Eversmart Scan 2.5.1 and scaner works without problem.
Best regards, Dennis
Hi Dennis,
Thanks a lot
I have old PowerPc 4400/200 (macos 8.6) and with it and evermarstscan 1.01
working like a charm !
All test are Ok, table and so.
Tomorrow i try to copy folder to my G4 with 9.2...
It is strange problem...
You have try with macos 9.2 or 9.2.1 (perhaps better than 9.2.2) ?
Perhaps 2906 is not the best Scsi card for G4 ?
I'm happy to keep my old mac
Thanks
Philippe
Re: The ScanHi-End Group Re: Eversmart cleaning procedure journey
When I left Scitex, we were using 500Mhz Gray G4's Mac OS 9.2.2 and an
Adaptec 2906 card. That was the recommended set-up.
We were about to start experimenting with a dual CPU 1Ghz QuickSilver
Mac, but I never got hands-on with that machine.
Mr. Bill
Hi Philippe!
I didn't try Mac OS 9.2 or 9.2.1 because G4 1,25 is boot only with 9.2.2.
Now I'm using Z9.2.2 because G4 1,25 don't see hdd, which is attached to 133 ATA
Bus when machine is booted with original Classic 9.2.2.
I think, all problems in Mac BIOS, not in Adaptec 2906. The earliest G4 (for
example 500Mhz Gray G4) and 2906 is better for EverSmart Pro. I choose G4 1,25
MDD, because it is the fastest machine for Classic. But the fastest machine for
Classic brought a lot of problems with EverSmart Pro.
Best regards, Denni
Hi,
what is difference between Z9.2.2 and 9.2.2 ?
My best G4 (for supreme and oxygen on macos 10) is G4 1,25x2.
My second is G4 800 and i wish to use it with the pro scan.
But i can change it with a friend for G4 500 perhaps better...
Thanks
Philippe
Here is a quick rule: If a Mac has FireWire 800 it CANNOT boot OS 9.x in any form. I don't know if the opposite is true. I do know that any "Quicksilver" G4...
Hi!
G4 1,25 have 2 internal ATA Bus: ATA/66 and ATA/100. Original Classic 9.2.2
don't see hdd, which is attached to ATA/100 Bus. Only ATA/66 connected drives
visible.
Z9.2.2 (for example, from the one of iMac G5 system discs with Mac OS 10.3.5)
see all ATA Bus in my Mac. But this system is not full. Z9.2.2 contains only few
extensions and control panel.
Mr. Bill right, if a Mac has FireWire 800 it CANNOT boot OS 9.x. without special
upgraded. For mo information, see
http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermac_g4/stats/powermac_g4_1.0_mdd.html
I think, change with a friend for G4 500 is a easy way in this situation.
Best regards, Dennis.
Hi,
Perhaps it is better for only scan use because extension are not all install ?
I see on other forum than scsi problem can coming from extension problem (i will
make some test without such extension).
Hi!
I experimenting with disable some extensions in Classic 9.2.2. Scanner don't
work. If scanner switch on before G4, Classic 9.2.2 freezing and booting don't
completed.
Mac OS Z9.2.2 better for me because scanner work fine and in 2 hdd, which
connect to ATA/100, installed Leopard and Panther, my main working systems. With
Classic 9.2.2 I can't choose it for boot in 'Startup Disc'.
Mac OS Z9.2.2 need for me only for scanning and I don't regret about missing
components.
Hier, was ich geschrieben habe:
Hallo !
since 4 month I am owner of a used eversmart pro and still have the following
problem. I got the scanner with an old powermac G3 and the scanner is working
fine with it. Very slow so, for a 350 MB scan of a 6cm x 7cm slide it takes 50
min. Photoshop and printer are working on a PC, so I have to bring the scans
onto an external harddrive readable for PC.
So my idea was to get a G4 with OS9 and Os10 installed, scan with eversmart
1.0.3 scanning software onto the internal harddrive, open OS10, bring the scans
converted to the external harddrive and continue on PC.
The problem is, that even a good expert did not get the eversmart pro running
with the G4. He dublicated the software of the old G3 , added the Adaptec 2906
scsi card with driver an put it on an blue and white G4. No success, (even if
the "systemenlargements" are off exept scsicard-driver)No commimnication with
the scanner.
The new harddrive within the old G3 : no problem, runs perfect (so slow ..).
In the G4 obviously a hardware-problem.
Now I heared, that some of the first models of the eversmart pro do not work
with G4 , or if, may be with a special scsicard only ??
Do you have any experiences ? What would you recommend ? AT least, is the
eversmart pro really so slow ?
Thank you a lot ! Detlef
Hi,
I confirm what dennis says. With my pro i need to install it on old powermac
4400 and macos8.6. Working well with 1.0.1 and 3.1 of eversmart scan.
I copy files in my G4 800 with macos 9.2.2 and adaptec 2906 and pref files.
After i launch install and load pref.
Averithing works good.
Thanks
Philippe
I can only relate my own experience.
I have an EverSmart Pro and run it with a MAC G4, 867 mhz Quicksilver model with
2906 Adaptec. I dedicate a special partition of the hard drive to MAC OS 9.2.2
and have emptied all extensions save those absolutely necessary. There are no
problems at all.
You can not run the EverSmart Pro with any version of MAC OSX.
Not sure I ever timed it but my scans of 6X7 cm negatives in RGB 8 bit at 6400
dpi take about 10-15 minutes. The speed of the scan is probably dictated more by
the processor on the EverSmart circuit board than by the speed of the MAC,
assuming the MAC processor speed is over 500 mhz.
Sandy
Believe it or not, the speed of the EverSmart was ultimately controlled
by the time the CCD needed to capture enough photons to give a good
noise-free image. That's why computers faster than 500mhz really didn't
speed up the scanner any. The EverSmart couldn't even challenge
SCIS-1's ability to transfer data.
