Kate Smith and "God Bless America" are synonymous. Ms. Smith was the first recording artist to sing it, and though it's been sung and recorded by other performing artists, Kate Smith still "owns" "God Bless America." Her full-throated contralto voice gave Berlin's famous song the rich sound and inspiring text it deserved! Ms. Smith recorded other memorable songs during the late 1930's and 1940's, but "God Bless America" was hers, and hers alone. Hearing her sing it is as American as apple pie! R.I.P. Kate Smith; you raised America's spirits with this song!

Das Ding hier könnte, sofern englisch gesungen, auch auf Cures Faith sein. Wenn ich es recht im Kopf habe, erschien Monarchie und Alltag 1980, Faith erst 1981. Vielleicht hat sich der damals noch sehr junge und dünne Smith ja davon inspirieren lassen. Anyway: der wohl beste Deutsche Postpunk-Song:
