Was war passiert?
Resultat:
Der PPP-Stack war total zerschossen.
Was ist passiert:
Schpongo
P.S. Viel Erfolg!

What did happen?
The PPPoE/ADL stopped working after the automated software update.
Pre:
My Mac had been running under a relatively old MacOS X version for a very long time. So I DID NOT update directly from 10.3.X to 10.3.4, but I updated directly from some 10.2.X version (cannot remember the minor X anymore).
Action:
I started the automatic software update from Apple->Software update, which installed automatically 10.3.4.
Result:
Obviously, the PPP stack was destroyed somehow.
What happened:
The automatic software update sent the WRONG update package (the size was roundabout 40MB, which fits for updates from 10.3.(n-1) to 10.3.n). Half of the stuff was missing!!
Solution:
Download the "Combined" update from Apple's download section and overinstall this package over the current system. The name of the actual package is 'MacOSXCombo10.3.5.dmg'
Conclusion:
Unfortunately, Apple's automatic update is not perfect at all. Better stay away and control the update process own your own by checking for the actual files at the download section. Do it on your own ;-)
Good luck.
