Hi Kool,

How to reset you Palm™ handheld.

Under normal use, you should not have to use the reset button located on the back of your Palm™ handheld. On rare occasions, however, your handheld may not respond to buttons or the screen. In this case, you need to perform a reset to get your Palm running again.

A Palm handheld can be reset in three different ways:

* A Soft Reset
* A Warm Reset
* A Hard Reset

Important information:

1. Always attempt a HotSync® operation prior to reseting the device.
2. When performing any of the resets listed below, a 'Reset Tool' will be required. Either use the tip of an unfolded paper clip, unscrew the top end of the stylus, or use a similar object without a sharp tip.
3. If using a Palm handheld that includes the slider feature, the reset hole will only be revealed by opening this.

Performing a Soft Reset

A soft reset tells your Palm to stop what it's doing and start over again. All records and entries stored in your handheld are retained with a soft reset. After a soft reset, the Palm logo screen appears, followed by the 'Preferences' screen.

To perform a soft reset:

1. Use the reset tool (described above) to gently press the reset button located inside the hole on the back panel of your handheld.

Performing a Warm Reset

A warm reset bypasses any system extensions (such as HackMaster hacks, OS patches, etc) that are loaded on your handheld. Performing a warm reset will often bypass the "boot loop" error and allow you to remove any third party applications that may contribute to, or cause the found issue.

To perform a warm reset:

1. Press and hold the page 'Up' button, or navigator on your handheld.
2. Use the reset tool (described above) to gently press the reset button located inside the hole on the back panel of your handheld.
3. When the Palm logo appears on screen, release the Page 'Up' button.

Performing a Hard Reset

With a hard reset, all records and entries stored in your handheld are erased. 'Formats', 'Preferences' and other settings are restored to their factory default setting. You can restore any data previously synchronised with your computer during the next HotSync operation. You will not need to re-install your 3rd party applications, as the Palm 'Backup' directory automatically restores installed applications.

Only perform a hard reset if the soft, or warm reset fails to resolve the issue.

To perform a hard reset:

1. Hold down the power button on the handheld.
2. While holding down the power button, use the reset tool (described above) to gently press the reset button located inside the hole on the back panel of your handheld.
3. Release the reset button.
4. Only when the Palm logo appears on screen, release the power button.
5. When the message appears on the Palm screen asking if you wish to 'erase all data', press the page 'up' button or navigator, on the front panel of the handheld to complete the hard reset and display the 'Digitizer' screen. Note: Pressing any other button will perform a soft reset.

Gruß, Hansi
