neues Panther Feature "Home on iPod"

grade beim surfen die folgende Meldung entdeckt. Hört sich ja echt gut an

Auf der neuen Seite von Apple zu Mac OS X 10.3 Panther, welches am 24.10.2003 erscheinen soll, fand sich ein bisher unbekanntes bzw. nicht präsentiertes Feature: "Home on iPod"
Mit dieser Funktionalität soll sich der gesamte Home-Ordner eines Benutzers auf den iPod übertragen lassen und somit auch die gesamten Daten und Dokumente sowie Voreinstellungen:

Ever thought you could carry your home in the palm of your hands or in your pocket? You can. Panther’s Home on iPod feature lets you store your home directory — files, folders, apps — on your iPod (or any FireWire hard drive) and take it with you wherever you go. When you find yourself near a Panther-equipped Mac, just plug in the iPod, log in, and you’re “home,” no matter where you happen to be. And when you return to your home computer, you can synchronize any changes you’ve made to your files by using File Sync, which automatically updates offline changes to your home directory.

Allerdings war dieses Feature noch nicht in Mac OS X 10.3 7b85 verfügbar, so dass wohl die finale Version von Mac OS X 10.3 ein neuerer Build sein muss. Apple entfernte die Werbung für dieses Feature allerdings sehr schnell wieder von den Produktseiten


Für meine Frage werde ich wohl geste***. Was ist den alle im Home-Ordner drin.

Natürlich alle meine Daten, das ist klar. Wie sieht es den mit den Programmen, sprich dem Aplikationordner aus ? Ist der auch drin und die Einstellungen der ganze Programme auch oder liegt das woanders. Was ist mit Systemeinstellungen, wo sind die denn.

Hab wohl einen falschen Tag erwischt, kann doch nicht sein, das kein Macuser weiß was in dem Homeverzeichniss liegt

Oder mögt ihr mein Posting nicht. Sonst stürzt sich doch auch jeder auf Infos zu neuen Features.

Vielleicht liegt das daran, dass wir die Meldung heute hier schonmal hatten...

Außerdem hast du dir deine Frage doch schon selbst beantwortet:

...When you find yourself near a Panther-equipped Mac, just plug in the iPod, log in, and you’re “home,” no matter where you happen to be.

Vielleicht liegt das daran, dass wir die Meldung heute hier schonmal hatten...

also ich habe auch schon per suche nach postings gesucht, es wurden aber keine gefunden - später kam dann der hinweis von jemandem: "Das hatten wir schon...". wenn ich jedoch nach meinem username und mehr als einem stichwort suche, dann funktioniert die suche gut, d.h. sie findet auch.

na ja!

Hmm, aber kann man seinen iPod nicht so oder so als Firewire-Festplatte nutzen und so seinen Home-Ordner drauftuen und davon Booten?

Gut, per Apfel-F, dauert natürlich was länger. Ich hoffe mal, dass man mit dem Home to iPod-Feature dann oben rechts bei den Benutzern den iPod auswählen kann... ;-)

Scheinbar hat Apple UK mal wieder zu früh den Applestore geupdatet:

The story is confirmed by Apple's UK online store which has a graphic on its front page advertising "Hot iPod Accessories". The player "now records your voice and stores more than tunes," it burbles.

Aber wahrscheinlich laufen die Accessoiries eh nur mit den 3Gs.

ich habs mal gesucht, aber irgendwie ist es nicht so benutzerfreundlich integriert - ich frage mich auch, was die iPod software 1.31 bringen soll - vieleicht kommt homeonipod bei panther 10.3.2

The illusive "Home on iPod" feature of Mac OS X has once again been proposed for inclusion in an upcoming update to the Mac OS X Panther, sources tell AppleInsider. Once a part of early Panther builds, the functionality seemingly vanished from the operating system during its latter development stages due to a number of imperfections.

The Home on iPod feature will allow users to store their home directory — including files, folders and applications — on their iPod or external FireWire hard drive and take it with them on the go. Users will then be able to plug their iPod into any Panther equipped Macintosh and login to their Mac as if they never left home. When the user returns home, they can automatically synchronize any changes they've made to their home directory with aid from Apple's FileSync technology.

With Apple's Panther update time schedule still up in the air, it's unknown when the feature will appear, though one source is citing the Mac OS X 10.3.5 update (which is traditionally the most feature rich of Mac OS X updates, as it falls halfway between major upgrades to the operating system).

Meanwhile, Apple is polishing its Mac OS X 10.3.2 update for release before the new year. In a note to developers last week, the company asked that they provide timely feedback on builds 7D14 and 7D15 of Mac OS X 10.3.2 Server and Client, respectively. With a substantial list of known issues to squash, the development team wants to ensure a safe release, sources said.

In October, Apple released Mac OS X 10.3 to retail outlets with a serious File System glitch that caused data corruption with hybrid USB/FireWire external drives.

was soll da komisch dran sein. Ich habe den Thread einfach nochmals hochgeholt, weil mich interessiert hat ob sich was in Tiger getan hat.

Die Beiträge sind natürlich gleich, weil immer nun die aktuelle Zahl angezeigt wird. Das ist bei jedem Postings so. Das heist also nicht, das ich schon 2003 soviele Postings hatte.
