Neue 500GB-Festplatte für iMac G5

Hallo,

hat jemand von euch schon eine 500 GB Festplatte in einen iMac G5 eingebaut? Welche kann man empfehlen?

Schnellste 500GB-Platte ist wohl die Hitachi Deskstar 7K500

Die liegt aber bei knapp 250€,
vielleicht reicht dir ja auch 400GB,
da gibt es z.B. die Samsung Spinpoint T133 für knapp 140€.
Ob dir die 100GB so viel wert sind?

Leider sind ja die SATA-II-Platten teilweise inkompatibel mit den Apple-Controllern. Trotzdem danke für deine Mühe.

Problematisch ist die 500GB S-ATA II von Seagate, zumindest funktioniert sie nicht in G5 Power Macs. Auch einige Hitachi Modelle sollen schwierig sein. That's what I'm hearing from various sources. [font=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Seagate says the problem is related to the fact that SSC (Spread Spectrum Clocking) is enabled. Apparently there is a DOS utility that can turn off SSC. And when that's done, according to multiple sources, the Seagate 7200.9 mounts fine. We haven't confirmed this in our lab but hope to soon.[/font]

die derzeit zu kaufenden 500GB sind allesamt noch sehr "mit der heißen Nadel gestrickt" - ich würde mich bei KEINER darauf verlassen daß sie so zuverlässig ist wie man es von einer primären Platte (mit System etc.) erwarten muss. Als Backup-Medium ok, aber EINbauen als einzige Platte, das ist nicht zu empfehlen. Nimm eine 500er lieber als externe Platte, in einem Firewire/USB-Combogehäuse.

Danke für eure Hinweise. Hmm, jetzt weiß ich was beim G5 nicht geht (ob das auch für den iMac gilt?) und das ich mir 'ne externe danebenstellen kann (hatte ich auch schon überlegt, denn das geht ja auf jeden Fall, da P-ATA), allerdings hat man dann noch 'ne Kiste mitsamt Netzteil rumstehen?

Ich kann mir gar nicht vorstellen, dass keiner von euch 'ne 500er-Platte eingebaut hat?! *Tread_nach_oben_hol_und_auf_weitere_Antwort_hoff*
