Mein iMac wird manchmal sehr langsam - warum und was tun?

Mach dich einfach frei von dem Gedanken, deinem System irgendetwas Gutes tun zu müssen. Das System kann alles ziemlich gut selbst. So blöd sind die Hersteller auch nicht.
Du musst selbst nichts "verhindern" oder "optimieren".

Zurück zum letzten Stand? Benutze eine Datensicherung deiner Wahl, die sollte man eh haben. Apple liefert von Haus aus Time Machine mit. Oder du machst vollständige Klone, zum Beispiel mit Carbon Copy Cloner.

Hier meiner Updates:
- Avira entfernt (mit Avira uninstall utility)
- kein Prozess von Avira in Aktivitätenliste

Es ist aber nicht besser geworden. Hauptsächlich hängt manchnal Excel kurzfristig: man klickt auf Menu - die Reaktion erst nach10-15 Sek. Man wechselt die Fenster (Hintergrund - Vordergrund) - auch 10-15 Sek. Öffnen einer Excel Datei 32 K Größe - 20 Sek., auch 35 Sek mal gesehen.

Wer hat weitere Ideen, was kann das sein?

Lahme Festplatte ist das Hauptproblem. Sind sonst alle Beteiligten (macOS, Office) komplett aktuell? Wobei Office selbst dann kein Leistungswunder ist.
