iPod Nano am MAC für iTunes, am PC als USB drive?

Hullo!

Nach ausfürlich gesucht zu haben bin ich jetzt verwirrt:

Ziel: iPod Nano auf mein Mac G5 für iTunes und auf PCs als luxus USB drive.

Laut KB article muß ein iPod entweder als Mac oder als PC aufgesetzt werden:

Ich wil d. iPod aber nur als USB drive am PC verwenden, *nicht* zum synchronisieren mit iTunes (mach ich am Mac..).

Welche erfahrung/tips habt ihr?

Also mit nem "normalen" iPod ist es wie folgt:

Windows formatiert (FAT32) kann er sowohl vom Mac als auch vom PC beschrieben werden (iTunes, Explorer usw.), also genau was Du willst.

Mac formatiert kann der PC ihn so nicht lesen (weder iTunes noch Explorer).

Wie das beim Nano mit dem Filesystem ist, weiß ich aber auch nicht genau...

Der iPod nano ist vom Werk aus als FAT32 formatiert. Wird er aber als erstes am Mac eingesteckt formatiert er sich automatisch mit HFS+.

Also sollte man, wenn man den iPod als FAT32 hat den iPod als erstes an einem Windows PC betreiben.

Ich finde es irgendwie blöd, dass man die iPods nicht auch unter Mac OS X als FAT32 formatieren kann. Aber vielleicht kommt das ja noch irgendwann mal.

Wurde doch schon gesagt, er kannst nicht lesen.

Zumindest um Musik draufzuspielen, als Speicher müsste es auch so gehen(FAT32 vorrausgesetzt).

...um den iPod am PC zu nutzen, einfach MacDrive unter Windows installieren und schon können alle Mac formatierten Laufwerke erkannt und genutzt werden. Sogar mit iTunes Plugin, d.h. synchronisieren mit iTunes unter Windows auch möglich (obwohl vorher mit Mac iTunes synchronisiert).

Ich finde es irgendwie blöd, dass man die iPods nicht auch unter Mac OS X als FAT32 formatieren kann. Aber vielleicht kommt das ja noch irgendwann mal.

wieso?
Stecke den iPod an, gehe in das Festplattendienstprogramm und wähle den iPod aus: dann bei Löschen MSDOS Filesystem wählen, und schon kannst du ihn verwenden. Ist zwar nicht FAT aber es funktionierte bei mir schon...

Hehe, eigentlich hab ich nach was anderem gesucht, aber ich kann euch vielleicht helfen

Man kann unter OSX den iPod erfolgreich Fat32 formatieren.
Da der iPod wie eine ext. HDD gemountet wird gelten auch die selben Regeln.

Kleiner Exkurs: Wenn man über das Festplattendienstprogramm eine Platte Fat32 formatiert, so ist sie in der Regel im ApplePartitionTable Format. Damit kann Windows nix anfangen und erkennt nix trotz Fat32 Formatierung.

Lösung: Das Terminal Utility diskutil nutzen.
Hier ein kleiner Auszug aus der man-page

     partitionDisk device numberOfPartitions [OS9Drivers] [MBRFormat]
                <part1Format part1Name part1Size> <part2Format part2Name
                part2Size> <part3Format part3Name part3Size> ...
                (re)Partition a disk, removing all volumes.  All volumes on
                this disk will be destroyed.  Format is the specific filesys-
                tem name you want to erase it as. (HFS+, etc.)  MBRFormat
                specifies that the partition map should be written in DOS com-
                patible format.  (OS9Drivers will be ignored in this case)

Man kann also mit dem optionalen Parameter MBRFormat auch Windows-Verständlich Fat32 formatieren.

Getestet habe ich es nie, habe keinen iPod. Denke aber, dass es einen Versuch wert wäre
