iMac ultimo 2014 ist langsam & Mauszeiger ruckelt

Hallo Leute

Ich dachte ich kommt noch 10 Jahre mit dem guten alten ultimate 2014er iMac aus.

Neuerdings ruckelt er leider schon stark. Das öffnen von Photoshop nimmt gute 10 Sekunden in Anspruch und während der Bildbearbeitung kann ich genüsslich am Kaffee schlürfen bis eine Bearbeitung abgeschlossen ist.

• MacOS Big Sur (Version 11.1) - Immer alles up-to-date
• 5k 25 Zoll
• 1,12 TB Fusion Drive (ca 30% belegt)
• 3,5 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
• 24 GB Ram (4 , 4 , 8 , 8 )

(Auch eine andere Maus führt dazu dass der Mauszeiger dennoch ruckelt und eben nicht sehr "flüssig" über den Bildschirm gleitet)

Dabei benötige ich eigentlich nur den Chrome Browser und Photoshop für Mittelgroße Bilder (Stockfotos verkleinern, beschriften etc.)
Also eigentlich relativ harmlose arbeiten. Bearbeiten von Websites im Browser über Wordpress mit Elementor ist leider auch sehr langsam und jedes Bild das ich verschiebe zieht sich ruckeln über den Bildschirm, so dass durchaus viele Fehler beim Arbeiten entstehen und jeder Vorgang 5 bis 10 Sekunden länger dauert, als nötig.

Traurig das dennoch ein solch teures Gerät hiermit überfordert ist. Was kann ich tun damit ich jetzt nicht 2-3k für einen neuen iMac ausgeben muss? :-(

Ich habe auch Add ons wie "StatsWidgetPlus" installiert um zu sehen wie die Auslastung ist. Eigentlich gar nicht so schlimm...

Kann jemand einen Rat was ich ändern könnte damit vor allem:

1. Der Mauszeiger wenigstens wieder geschmeidig über den Bildschirm gleitet
2. Die Ladezeiten etwas verringert werden

Ich wäre euch sehr dankbar. Auch eine kostenpflichtige App würde ich in Kauf nehmen, aber darüber habe ich bisher nur negatives gelesen.

Ich hab genau die gleichen Spezifikationen bei meinem iMac und kann das absolut nicht bestätigen.

Das liegt in der Tat an der Festplatte, das in Kombination mit Big Sur ist echt lahm.

Also hier schlagen beinahe täglich Leute auf, deren iMacs mit drehenden Festplatten "furchtbar langsam" sind. Ich denke man kann schon sagen, dass das ziemlicher Müll ist.

Klar, es gibt auch genug Leute, denen das noch taugt. Ich hatte ja selbst noch lange einen iMac mit Fusion Drive. Das lief recht ordentlich, aber es ist eben kein Vergleich zu einer reinen SSD, wenn man in den Bereich kommt, wo die Daten nicht mehr auf dem SSD-Teil liegen. Nicht selten gehen die Festplatten in den iMacs auch einfach kaputt, was bei einem 2014er hier durchaus auch in Betracht kommt.

Und wenn ihr mit euren iMacs mit drehenden Festplatten zufrieden seid, dann ist das doch gut, niemand hier will euch das ausreden.

Die Festplatte muss natürlich nicht DAS Problem sein, aber es spricht vieles dafür, dass sie mindestens Hauptsächlich zum Problem beiträgt.

Das Ruckeln kann verschiedene Ursachen haben, im "Rohzustand" ruckelt da nichts. (BigSur ist allerdings schon für eine SSD optimiert)

Überprüfen:
- wie viele Programme sind gleichzeitig geöffnet?
- wie viel RAM ist belegt im Betrieb (wie viel swap??)
- wie viele TABs sind z.B. in Chrome geöffnet? (insbesonder Chrome kann hier ordentlich verzögern!)
- wie voll sind die Speicher? (die SSD/HDD) 30% bedeutet letztlich nur, dass die HDD recht leer ist, die SSD wird ja zuerst gefüllt und insbesondere bei längerem Gebrauch kann sich da schon einiges ansammeln (Cache z.B.)
- läuft der Rechner im Dauerbetrieb, oder wird er regelmäßig neu gestartet? (das leert Cache)

Nebenbei… einen iMac 2014 kenne ich nicht, es gab 2013 und 2015 iMacs. Die theoretische Leistung (geekbench) kann man hier nachschauen >https://browser.geekbench.com/mac-benchmarks

Ja, Chrome ist nicht gerade ressourcenschonend. Hier wäre Safari wohl die bessere Wahl.

Überprüfen:
- wie viele Programme sind gleichzeitig geöffnet?
- wie viel RAM ist belegt im Betrieb (wie viel swap??)
- wie viele TABs sind z.B. in Chrome geöffnet? (insbesonder Chrome kann hier ordentlich verzögern!)
- wie voll sind die Speicher? (die SSD/HDD) 30% bedeutet letztlich nur, dass die HDD recht leer ist, die SSD wird ja zuerst gefüllt und insbesondere bei längerem Gebrauch kann sich da schon einiges ansammeln (Cache z.B.)
- läuft der Rechner im Dauerbetrieb, oder wird er regelmäßig neu gestartet? (das leert Cache)

1-2 wirklich aktiv ausgewählte Programme. Chrome und Photoshop. Eventuell noch ab und zu Pages oder Numbers, aber nur mit kleinen Dateien.

Tabs: Naja schon meist 5-10 - meist auch links auf der Bildschirmhälfte und rechts, da ich viel copy & paste Arbeit erledige. Aber das sollte doch alles kein Problem für einen solchen Rechner sein.

Dauerbetrieb: Nein, wird täglich heruntergefahren.

Grundsätzlich ist das Problem jetzt nicht gravierend, aber eben störend. Die Maus ruckelt nicht mit 1 fps über den Bildschirm aber es kommt einem deutlich langsamer als früher vor. Es ist eben nicht 100 % smooth und wenn ich im Wordpress Elementor Bilder verschiebe oder ähnliches, zieht und ruckelt es alles ziemlich.

Info: Bin jetzt im Büro mit diesem iMac. Zu Hause habe ich das Problem mit einem fasst identischen iMac deutlich geringer bis zu gar nicht. Zu Hause ist ein late 2015er iMac mit 4 gb mehr Ram, einer 128 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD und sonst identischen Settings.

Danke für die Überprüfungen. Aber ich bleibe dabei. Dass eine Software langsam lädt und die Arbeiten so stocken, hängt meines Erachtens mit der ollen HDD zusammen. Die sind einfach ziemlich langsam für ein modernes System.
