Ich habe ein Problem bei der Aufrüstung eines iMac 24" (Early 2008, 2,8 GHz, ATI-Grafik) für einen Freund. Installiert ist OS X 10.11.6 (El Capitan).

Der Wiederherstellungsmodus stürzt jedes Mal ab. Egal, ob ich ihn mit CMD+R anwähle oder per ALT/OPTION-Taste die Bootoptionen anzeige und ihn als Laufwerk auswähle.

Zwei Absturzberichte anbei.

Zunächst dachte ich, dass es an dem neu erweiterten Speicher von 4 GB auf 6 GB liegt. Doch auch ein Rückbau des alten 2 GB-Riegels brachte keine Veränderung.

Möglicherweise liegt es auch an meinen vorherigen Bemühungen, als ich die HDD gegen eine SSD tauschte. Dabei versuchte ich zunächst, die alte Bootcamp-Partition zu transferieren. Dafür machte ich einen "Klon" der gesamten HDD mit Paragon Hard Disk Manager (Mac). Damit bootete aber nur OS X, nicht aber Windows. Auch Versuche mit Winclone, Bootcamp zu kopieren, brachten Windows nicht zum Booten.

Danach startete ich komplett neu, mit einem Bootstick von El Capitan: Per Festplattendienstprogramm (FDP) habe ich zunächst die SSD gelöscht und mit HFS+ neu formatiert. Dann El Capitan neu installiert, es gestartet und im FDP eine DOS-Partition erstellt. Dann mit Windows 10-DVD neu gebootet und Windows 10 (64bit) in diese Partition installiert.

El Capitan und Windows 10 laufen problemlos und überraschend flott. Nur den Wiederherstellungsmodus kriege ich nicht zum Laufen, er stürzt jedes Mal während des Ladebalkens ab. Auch die Tastenkombination für Internet-Recovery (OPTION+CMD+R) funktioniert nicht, er reagiert darauf nicht und bootet einfach weiter.

PRAM-Reset habe ich schon probiert. Könnte es ein Problem mit der EFI-Partition sein, nach meinen Versuchen oben? Soll ich den El-Capitan-Bootstick nochmal drüber laufen lassen und OS X als Reparatur drüber installieren? Oder soll ich damit einfach leben und im Notfall zur Wiederherstellung den Bootstick benutzen? Vielleicht habt ihr eine Idee. Vielen Dank!

Gute Frage. Schließlich meckert er ja bei:

Die Frage ist, wie ich das BaseSystem.dmg wieder korrekt installiere? Mit dem Bootstick als "Auffrischung" von OS X? Oder muss eine komplette Neuinstallation her?
 
Das liegt in einer eigenen Partition, die kannst du mounten und es ersetzen, falls du ein anderes hast.

Ok, vielen Dank. Das hat mich auf die richtige Spur gebracht - nämlich die Recovery-Partition neu zu erstellen. Zunächst probierte ich diesen Tipp aus:

Das hat aber nicht funktioniert - statt dessen gab es einige Fehlermeldungen und das Programm "Recovery Partition Creator" endete plötzlich. Nicht empfehlenswert.

Aber da ich für den "Creator" ja bereits über den App-Store das El-Capitan-Installationsprogramm geladen hatte, führte ich dieses dann einfach aus. Der Rechner rebootete, arbeitete sich ein paar Minuten den Fortschrittsbalken entlang, um dann mit einer Fehlermeldung abzubrechen.

Kein Problem, denn schon bei der ersten Installation per El Capitan-Bootstick hatte ich gelernt, dass man dann einfach nur das Netzwerkkabel herauszieht und im Terminal das Datum auf irgendwann 2015 zurückstellt:

Danach ein Reboot und der Installer lief durch. Und schwupp: Habe ich wieder eine funktionierende Recovery-Partition. Und die Daten waren auch alle noch da, da es nur eine Reparatur-Installation war.

Also: Der iMac 2008 funktioniert jetzt tadellos, mit El Capitan auf der macOS-Seite und Windows 10 (64bit) auf der Bootcamp-Seite und funktionierender Recovery-Partition.

Als Fehlerquelle vermute ich, dass mir der vorherige Einsatz von "Paragon Hard Disk Manager" für Mac die Partition durcheinander gebracht hat. Diesen kann ich auch unabhängig davon nicht wirklich empfehlen, da der von ihm erstelle Klon der Platte nicht funktionierte (Bootcamp bootete nicht) und ich damit letztlich nur Zeit verplemperte.

BTW: Die Diskussionen hier haben mir beim Flottmachen des Rechners sehr geholfen: Etwa der Hinweis, dass man beim iMac 2008 den Windows 10-Installer nur per DVD booten kann. Das war dann recht einfach: Man lädt sich bei Microsoft das Media Creation Tool für Windows 10 herunter, erstellt damit eine ISO für eine Windows DVD, brennt sie, legt sie ein und bootet den iMac mit gedrückter C- oder OPTION-Taste.

Was schrecklich war: Dass man sich einen El-Capitan-Bootstick nur mit einem funktionierenden El-Capitan oder älteren System erstellen kann, da dazu unbedingt aus dem App-Store das Installationsprogramm geladen werden muss, was aber bei neueren Systemen mit Fehlermeldung abbricht. Die Seite von Apple zum Download älterer Systeme half leider nicht, da man damit nur ein pkg bekommt, nicht aber ein geladenes Installationsprogramm, das laut Apple Voraussetzung für die Erstellung eines Bootsticks ist. Also Spießrutenlaufen durch Zirkelschlüsse von der Art: Es muss El Capitan schon laufen, um es installieren zu können. Zum Glück habe ich noch einen anderen alten Mac, da ging das mit dem App-Store.

Muss es nicht, das pkg kann ab 10.6 installiert werden. Auf dem M1 verweigert es sich.
Ich wollte das pkg ja nicht zum Installieren, ich brauchte es nur, um mir daraus einen Bootstick zu erstellen, für eine frische Installation auf neuer SSD. Das geht nicht mit dem pkg auf neueren Systemen, wie meinem MBP 16", da das ja logischerweise El Capitan nicht installieren darf.

Von daher braucht man ein älteres System. Wenn es eine Anleitung gibt, wie ich aus dem El-Capitan-pkg unter Big Sur einen Stick mache, sehr gerne. Ich habe dann wie beschrieben auf dem älteren Rechner El Capitan geladen und mit der herkömmlichen Art weitergemacht.
 
Das hat halt Apple vermurkst.
K.A. was die sich dabei gedacht haben das ganze als pkg mit doofen Scripten zu verpacken.
Muss halt Pacifist oder Suspicious Package helfen.
