okey, ich muss mich entschuldigen, ich hab das mit dem firewire falsch verstanden, firewire über DP geht nicht, er hats nur als beispiel für mobile anwendungen genommen.
Hello Mister xxx
there are few discussion on the internet about apples implemention of
the displayport standart. i for one think it is really an advantage
to
have such a future-proof format handy. however i dislike the mini-DP
connector.
So far, most of us think, it is a propriotary port, only used by
apple. i quickly checked the specs from the official displayport
homepage, and nothing stated anything like the mini-DP Connector.
however, Peter Cohen from macworld tells its, that it is in the specs
and that it is an official port.
http://www.macworld.com/article/136196/2008/10/displayportfaq.html
can you shed some light in the situation?
Best regards

Fabio,
Not to worry. The mini-DisplayPort is being finalized in the DisplayPort
version 1.2 that is in development at this time.
... the mini-DP plug is ideal fro use on
mobile devices such as laptops, notebooks and the new mini-notebooks that
are coming to the market.
I have been speaking with Peter also. Apple as always was a pioneer in its
implementation of the mini-DP in its new line of products. You will see more
and more products come to market with this technology too.
Thank you for the email. Feel free to contact me if you have any further
questions.

Hello xxx
I've been asking because in lots of discussion boards there is the
opinion that min-DP was a propriotary standart from apple.
But as it seems mini-DP will be in the 1.2 specs.
These are information a lots of people are interest in.
Would you mind if i post the email in a discussion board, or is the
content under some kind of non-disclousure?
Regards
Fabio...
Fabio,
You are free to mention that the mini-DP is in development at VESA and will
be part of version 1.2. It is no secret.
... Mini-DP is a great example of how the standard
is capable of meeting the needs of many companies. This serves to be in the
best interest of the end user by the ability of companies like Apple, Dell,
HP etc to deliver the most state-of-the-art innovation at a cost that
everyone can afford. The regular DP is much, much smaller than the DVI port.
Actually it is about the size of a USB port. This is fine for many products
such as a PC. But the Mini-DP offers the same level of innovation but in a
package that is more suited for products where packaging is an issue like
laptops, notebooks and the new mini-notebooks. The mini-DP is a perfect
solution for delivering a true digital experience. And as you know they must
be a pioneer that is the first to implement into their technology. And Apple
is one of those companies. They were one of the first to go with DVI and now
they are one of the first to go with mini-DP. Apple took the chance by
implementing mini-DP before the standard has been released - most would wait
for it to be released. But his is why Apple can make the marketing claim
that their new machines are so advanced that they have standards that are
not even standards yet". Great line in my opinion.
